How to print a poster on multiple pages
- Choose a high-resolution image. Larger images print sharper.
- Pick your paper size (US Letter or A4 for most home printers) and the orientation.
- Set how many pages across you want. With "keep proportions" ticked, the number of pages down is calculated for you, so the image isn't distorted.
- Set the printer margin (most printers can't print the outer 4–6 mm) and an overlap of about 5 mm for easier gluing.
- Download the PDF and print it at 100% / Actual size, not "Fit to page".
- Trim along the dashed cut lines, line the pages up using the row and column labels, and tape or glue them together.
How big will my poster be?
Poster width = pages across × printable width − (pages across − 1) × overlap. On US Letter in portrait with 6 mm margins and 5 mm overlap, each page has a printable area of about 203.9 × 267.4 mm. Three pages across give a poster about 602 mm (23.7 in) wide. The calculator shows the exact size and the number of pages as you change the settings.
| Pages (Letter, portrait) | Approx. poster size |
|---|---|
| 2 × 2 | 15.9 × 20.9 in |
| 3 × 3 | 23.7 × 31.2 in |
| 4 × 4 | 31.5 × 41.5 in |
The table is a fixed grid. With keep proportions on, pages down follow the picture, so a wide photo uses fewer rows than the square grids above.
Image resolution and print quality
We show the effective DPI (dots per inch) of your image at the chosen poster size. Above 150 DPI looks sharp up close. 100–150 DPI is fine for a wall poster viewed from a few feet away. Below 100 DPI it will look soft or pixelated. For big posters, start from the original photo file rather than a screenshot or a social media download.
Tips for a clean result
- Turn off "scale to fit" or "shrink oversized pages" in the print dialog.
- Use matte or heavier paper (24–32 lb / 90–120 gsm) so the sheets don't wrinkle when glued.
- Use a metal ruler and a craft knife for straight cuts, and trim only the edges that overlap a neighbouring page.
- Assemble from the top-left corner, and mount the poster on foam board for a rigid finish.
Private by design
Splitting and PDF creation happen entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your photo is never uploaded, so it's safe for family photos and client artwork.
Ideas for multi-page posters
Tiled posters are a cheap way to make classroom displays, party banners, birthday photo walls, maps, sewing and woodworking patterns, and large artwork for kids' rooms. Because each sheet is printed on your own printer, you can make a 2 × 3 ft poster for the cost of a few sheets of paper, with no trip to a print shop.
Frequently asked questions
How can I print a large image on multiple pages?
Choose the image, set the pages across and the paper size, download the PDF, and print it at actual size. Then trim along the dashed lines and tape the pages together.
What overlap should I use?
3–10 mm works well. The overlap repeats a strip of the image on neighbouring pages so you can line them up precisely.
Can I print a poster on A4 paper?
Yes. Choose A4 as the paper size; Letter, Legal, A3 and Tabloid are also supported.
Why does my printed poster come out smaller?
Your print dialog is probably set to "Fit to page". Choose "Actual size" or 100% scale.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. All processing happens locally in your browser and the PDF is created on your device.
